Make selection tolerance for column larger

I'm completing a column design in RAM Structural System and need to update a number of columns. However, it seems like the clickable area for a column to select it is incredibly small. I have to try to select the column multiple times (which takes a few seconds for each as there is a processing lag) and it will only select the column if the center of my cursor is exactly on the center of the small column. Can this be fixed so that if you click within a few pixels of the column, you're selecting it? And/or can the column size be increased to provide for easier viewing and clicking? See the attached file - I can barely see the column, let alone select it!
